How are Couples Intensives Different from Couples Therapy?

Couples intensives (also called Couples Therapy Intensives or Couples Therapy Workshops) are focused, extended sessions designed to support partners make meaningful progress over a short period of time. Instead of weekly sessions, couples spend several hours (over one or two days) with a trained therapist to develop an in-depth understanding of what’s keeping you stuck and to begin creating change in real time. Many couples value this approach as it creates momentum, clarity, and renewed hope much more quickly than traditional couples therapy.

What We Help With: Couples Intensive Specializations

Intensives are helpful for couples who are caught in recurring conflicts, facing a major decision, healing after a betrayal, or wanting to (re)connect more deeply. The longer format allows partners to move beyond surface-level content, identify underlying emotions and needs, and practice new ways of communicating with each other.

Communication Issues

Identify patterns of interaction, learn vital skills to create new dynamics and respond more skillfully to each other’s needs.

Infidelity & Betrayal

Navigate the return to daily life, safely process its impact, and gain clarity on how to move forward together or apart.

Intimacy & Connection

Explore the overt and covert elements of your relationship that move you and your partner closer or farther apart, and develop skills to promote vulnerability, empathy, and relationship satisfaction.

Relationship Structure (Poly/CNM/ENM)

Clarify the boundaries of your current relationship and implement changes with integrity to set you and your partner up for interpersonal success.

Often, yes, but not always. This is why your free consultation is a vital step in determining what therapy is likely to best support you and your partner during this time.

This is common, especially after betrayal. We create space for honesty while managing the consequences of difficult truths. If trust has been broken, rebuilding it requires transparency, which we facilitate safely.

Yes, many couples benefit from both. Individual therapy addresses personal patterns while couples therapy works on relationship dynamics. Having both can enhance progress in each.

Understandable concern. Sometimes one partner is more ready than the other. We can discuss this during a consultation, sometimes individual therapy for the motivated partner creates enough change to shift the relationship.

Therapy effectiveness depends heavily on approach, therapist fit, and timing. A previous unhelpful experience doesn't mean couples therapy won't work, it may mean the approach or therapist wasn't right for you.
